Informace o originálu: Přestože Lancaster sloužil většinu času jako noční výškový bombardér a útočil na strategické cíle hluboko na německém území (za zmínku stojí především jeho účast v bitvách v Porúří, Hamburku a Berlíně), byl to troufalý hloubkový nálet, který vstoupil do dějin jako jeho nejúspěšnější mise. „Dambusters raid“ („nálet bořičů přehrad“), jak byl od té doby známý, se stal jednou z nejslavnějších operací celé války. Pod vedením velitele Guye Gibsona zaútočilo devatenáct speciálně upravených Lancasterů na přehrady Mohne, Eder, Sorpe a Ennepe, přičemž Mohne a Eder se jim podařilo prorazit. To způsobilo nedozírné škody jak pro německé válečné snahy, tak zejména pro německou potravinářskou výrobu. Přehrady se spojencům podařilo prorazit pomocí speciálního typu bomby, tzv. „skákající bomby“. Ta byla při útoku ještě v letadle roztočena a poté doskákala po hladině až k samotné přehradě, než se potopila a explodovala, čímž způsobila v přehradě trhlinu. Varianta F.8 byla patrně tou nejlepší inkarnací slavného letadla a sloužila jako hlavní stíhačka RAF i v 50. letech, dokud ji nepřekonal nový Hawker Hunter. Jako první proudové letadlo ve službě u Britského královského letectva bude Gloster Meteor vždy považován za historicky důležitý stroj. When ASJA was merged with SAAB, the airplane was named SAAB 17. It was now also intended as a dive bomber. As the European continent was thrown into war, the lack of engines forced three different versions of the SAAB 17 to be developed; the 17A with Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp, the 17B with Bristol Mercury XXIV and the 17C with Piaggio P. XIbis R.C.40D. The first prototype flew on May 18 1940 and two years later deliveries commenced.
